I hit the Digital Citizenship lessons right when the school begins, and we have a great collection of staying safe online books for K-1 students, as well as a thorough series of lessons about being a responsible citizen both in person and online, protecting your identity and keep safe online, why you should use ALL CAPS EVER BECAUSE you look like you are yelling.
We teach students that nothing you post online is secret or temporary. Everything you post and interact with creates your “digital footprint,” which is a unique trail of data left by online comments, games, videos and purchases. Thats why we have 3rd-5th graders read and sign a Digital Citizenship Agreement at the start of the year. Fourth grade students are required to read a hard copy of this agreement with parents and return it signed.
